Sean a.k.a The Guy Writing This

If you’re here then you either know me (text me you read this!) or you’re passionate about technology like me! Either way, welcome! This will be a blog dedicated to virtualization, homelabbing, and all the steps in between. Hopefully you know what that is and how complicated it can be. My goal is to teach how to do these things in a stupid simple way.

I want everyone to be able to host their own services, not just those of you with 10+ years of IT experience. What does that mean? Hosting your own services means full and total control of your data. That could be really overwhelming, I know. My goal is to make it so simple that my mom could do this (Hi Mom). The benefits can be immense! For one, just about everything with self-hosting is free. No more paying $5/month for x,y, and z services. Replace iCloud with Nextcloud, Netflix with Plex, or Google Photos with Photoprism. The guides I’ll be writing are meant to be long-term, robust, and easy to manage. Additionally, if you’re like me, you’ll learn a heck of a lot while doing it.

These benefits add up over time and hopefully if you’re not scared away with some CLI commands, you’ll be smarter, safer, and happier for it! You don’t have to go big and get a giant server to start out. Honestly, a Raspberry Pi 4 or an old server from Ebay is more than enough to get started. Start small. See if it’s for you. If you feel comfortable, scale up! That’s how we all do it.

Anyways, thank you for stopping by. See you in the next post.

P.S. Give yourself a pat on the back if you are getting my K Dot references.
